The City of Carlsbad is currently developing its first citywide Pedestrian Master Plan, and has chosen Alta Planning + Design to lead the development of the plan in consultation with the City. Alta is an industry leader in pedestrian plan preparation and has produced exemplary plans for other California cities and counties. The main purpose of the Pedestrian Plan is to provide a framework of policies and a strategy for the development of physical improvements that will enhance the pedestrian environment and increase opportunities to choose walking as a mode of transportation. Specifically, the Pedestrian Plan is intended to serve the City by: 1. Describing the existing conditions and identifying issues and opportunities for walking in Carlsbad; 2. Identifying goals and policies that will support and encourage walking in Carlsbad; 3. Identifying and prioritizing potential capital investment projects that will contribute to an expanded, safer and more attractive walking environment in the City; 4. Providing guidance for developing a comprehensive pedestrian system that is integrated with other modes of transportation and that provides safe and efficient paths of travel.
